About the ALO group
"ALO group" represents five associated websites which evolved from one original website created in 1995, called 'Alternative Learning Exchange'.
Alternative Learning Organization (ALO) The Alternative Learning organization was created in 1999 to provide information on various alternatives to traditional education and schools. It is officially a non-profit educational foundation.
The objectives of ALO and its Website, of the same name, are International.
Since founded in The Netherlands (Holland), ALO is also known by its Dutch name "Stichting alternatieve leervormen"(SAL)
Learning Freely Network (LFN)
Since 2003 the focus became more specific, which gave rise to the Learning Freely Network (LFN), once called Altlearn Map Network (AMN), because it provided users an easy way to navigate to locations throughout the world. On these location pages one could find information on Local News, Legalities, Support Groups and Other information related to Natural Learning, Unschooling or other Autonomous Home based Education environments.
The maps are still retained as one of the ways to navigate.
Leren in vrijheid (LIV) (Dutch)
This website is the Dutch sister to LFN. It is not a translation of LFN, but represents similar ideals from a Dutch perspective.
OK4me2
The website started off on the LFN site and was then called "Cool Stuff", however it grew so fast we had to give it it's own space and domain name. ok4me2 is a site which provides quality news articles on Science and Tecnology as well as Arts and Culture, which might possibly inspire or support the young in a desired interest. It all started with one article on Space Exploration, but expanded quickly.
