Nederlandstalige bezoekers: LearningFreely was jarenlang een Nederlandstalig blog over vrij leren, thuisonderwijs en alternatief onderwijs. Het originele blog is niet langer actief; deze pagina bewaart de herinnering aan het archief.
For many years, this address hosted LearningFreely, a Dutch-language blog dedicated to self-directed learning, homeschooling ("thuisonderwijs"), unschooling, and alternative education models across the Netherlands and beyond. Its articles covered the practical and legal realities of learning outside conventional schools — from the Dutch debate on whether school attendance should remain compulsory, to profiles of democratic schools, nature-based learning, and family-led education.
The original WordPress blog is no longer maintained, and its full article set is no longer published here. Earlier versions of individual articles remain accessible through public web archives such as the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine (web.archive.org) by looking up this address.
alternative-learning.org now focuses on the same underlying question LearningFreely explored — what learning looks like outside the default path — with current material in two areas:
REALM Charter School and project-based learning — an account of the Berkeley school that built its entire program around design thinking and real-world projects, and what its model still teaches educators.
Non-traditional routes into higher education — including how students from alternative and project-based backgrounds transition into large universities, with a detailed guide for Spanish-speaking students.
